Setting up your email on an Android device using an IMAP server with SSL

Step 1: Open Your Email Application

  • Launch the Email app on your Android device. This could be named "Email," "Gmail," or another name depending on your device's brand and the apps installed.
  • If it's your first time setting up an email account on this app, you'll be prompted to do so. If you've already set up an account, access the settings menu (usually represented by a gear icon) and select "Add Account" or "Add another account."

Step 2: Select Account Type

  • When asked for the account type, choose "Personal (IMAP)" or just "IMAP" if the option is directly available. If you see an option for "Other," select that to manually enter your email settings.

Step 3: Input Your Email Information

  • Email Address: Enter your complete email address (e.g., yourname@mailsrv.dic.net).
  • Password: Type in the password for your email account.

Instead of tapping "Next," choose "Manual setup" to input the server settings manually for both incoming and outgoing emails.

Step 4: Incoming Server Settings

Configure your incoming server settings as follows:

  • Username: This should be your full email address (e.g., yourname@mailsrv.dic.net).
  • Password: Your email account's password.
  • IMAP server: mailsrv.dic.net.
  • Port: 993 (This port is typically used for IMAP servers with SSL encryption).
  • Security type: Select "SSL/TLS" (accept all certificates) for a secure connection.

After entering these details, tap "Next" to continue.

Step 5: Outgoing Server Settings

For the outgoing server settings, input the following:

  • SMTP server: Often the same as the IMAP server, so you can use mailsrv.dic.net. However, verify this with your email service provider as it can vary.
  • Port: 465 (This is a common port for SMTP servers using SSL encryption).
  • Security type: Choose "SSL/TLS" (accept all certificates) for a secure connection.
  • Require sign-in: Ensure this option is checked.
  • Username: Enter your full email address again (e.g., yourname@mailsrv.dic.net).
  • Password: The password associated with your email account.

Select "Next" after configuring the outgoing server settings.

Step 6: Account Options

  • You'll now be able to choose from various options, such as how often the app checks for new emails, whether to notify you of new emails, and if attachments should be automatically downloaded when connected to Wi-Fi. Adjust these settings to suit your preferences.

Step 7: Complete the Setup

  • Finally, you can name your email account (for your reference only) and specify the display name for your outgoing messages.
  • After configuring these last options, tap "Done" or "Next" to finish the setup process.

Conclusion

Your Android device is now configured to access your email via the IMAP server mailsrv.dic.net using SSL for encryption and requiring authentication. This setup ensures that your email stays synced across all devices using the account. If any issues arise during the setup, verify your internet connection, double-check your settings for accuracy, and ensure all server addresses and ports match.
